Poulsbo Historical Society

The Poulsbo Historical Society’s mission is collecting, recording, preserving and exhibiting the history, heritage and culture of Poulsbo and the surrounding communities.

A SHORT HISTORY

The Poulsbo Historical Society was originally incorporated under the name North Kitsap Historical Society on February 26, 1991.  The name changed in 1995. The incorporators were Rangvald Kvelstad, Mabel Raab, Muriel Williams, Sharon Lofgren, Jeff Tolman and Vince Prouty.

We maintain a research library and museum at 200 NE Moe St. in Poulsbo (Poulsbo City Hall).  Easy access via the elevator to floor 2 from the parking garage on Bjermeland St. or through the Poulsbo Historical Society entrance on Third Street.  Our hours are Wed. – Sat. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m

Our collection consists of over 1,000 photos, taped oral histories, paper items (books, annuals, maps, calendars, newspapers) and artifacts.

We opened the Martinson Cabin Museum in September 2006 and the new Heritage Museum in Feb. 2011.

The Poulsbo Historical Society is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization supported by memberships, grants, donations, research and photo reproduction fees, gift sales, public programs, and special events. We rely on volunteer support to mount our exhibits, support a variety of educational programs, downtown walking tours, the Martinson Cabin, preserve our artifacts and collections, and meet our operational needs. If you like what we're doing, you can support the Poulsbo Historical Society by joining as a member, making a donation or both. Simply download and print out the ONLINE MEMBERSHIP FORM (.pdf format), fill in your information and mail the completed form and your payment to: Poulsbo Historical Society, PO Box 844, Poulsbo, WA 98370.

PHS HAS OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU

VOLUNTEERS

Poulsbo Historical Society - Poulsbo, WA USA
Volunteers are the lifeblood of every community non-profit organization. They get things done.

PHS relies on volunteers for most of its efforts. Volunteers work in our office, on exhibits, on our three established committees [Administrative, Operations, and Financial], help develop programs, prepare newsletters, manage our collection, respond to requests for information, perform clerical and accounting duties, conduct walking tours, act as docents at the Martinson Cabin and Heritage Museum, and research and preserve Poulsbo area history. Our volunteers are vital to our organization.

CABIN DOCENT

Greet, interact with, and assist visitors at the Martinson Cabin. Requires a warm, professional public presence, customer service orientation, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. No experience necessary. Training provided. Shifts are Saturdays 10am to 4pm. Year-round.  In summer we try to open on Fridays when docents are available.

MAKE A DONATION

Poulsbo Historical Society
Donations keep the lights on and doors open.  Membership dues alone cannot fully support operations.

PHS accepts financial donations and artifacts.

Making a financial contribution to the Poulsbo Historical Society's Annual Fund is easy. Simply follow the instructions at the bottom of the page.

Artifacts are accepted for addition to our collection in accordance to our written acceptance policies.

ANNUAL FUND

The Annual Fund augments yearly revenue from other existing sources such as membership dues, admission donations, downtown walking tours, photograph sales, and special fundraising events. Unrestricted donations to the Annual Fund for general operating costs are essential to keeping the Heritage Museum and Martinson Cabin lights on and the doors open to the public. These funds cover the costs that grants are often unwilling to cover, and allow us to offer many public programs at little or no cost to the public.

HOW TO DONATE

To contribute to the Annual Fund, download the online form (.pdf format), print it and fill in your information.
